Architectural Specifications

Specifications for All Floor Types
PART 1 - GENERAL
1. 1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

Drawings and general sections for specifications and supplementary conditions.
1. 2 DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The multipurpose gymnasium sport flooring shall include the furnishing of materials and complete installation including laying, gluiing, welding and application of gamelines
1. 3 SUBMITTALS
A - Manufacturer's product data (5 copies) including samples.
B - Maintenance instructions (5 copies)
1. 4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
All Taraflex products are made to the highest industry quality standards and are ISO 9001 certified. Installation of Taraflex products shall be done by a qualified flooring contractor approved by Taraflex.
1. 5 DELIVERY / STORAGE AND HANDLING
A - Flooring contractor shall not deliver to jobsite until the work of the orther trades have been completed (especially overhead trades).
B - Taraflex must be stored in up-right position, never store in horizontal position.
1. 6 PROJECT / SITE CONDITIONS
Environmental Requirements : The building shall be dry and enclosed. Permanent heat, light and ventilation shall be installed and operable. Flooring installation shall not begin until the installer is familiar with existing subfloor conditions. All work which would cause damage, dirt, dust or interruption of normal installation pace shall be completed at least one week prior to and during installation the room temperature must be maintained at a minimum of 65°F. The installation area shall be closed to all traffic and activity for a period to be set by the flooring contractor.
1. 7 WARRANTY
Taraflex offers a two (2) year warranty for Taraflex sports flooring and accessories. This coverage is limited to the normal use and maintenance of the product. This warranty will become null and void if the subfloor conditions and installation procedures do not conform to those prescribed by Taraflex.
This guarantee does not cover damage to nor failure of the flooring system due to moisture migration or hydrostatic pressure.
Manufacturer reserves the right to change design, material or specification to improve products or processing at anytime without notice.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2. 1 MANUFACTURERS
Taraflex Sports flooring and its components must be supplied, manufactured and / or approved by Taraflex.
2. 2 MATERIALS
A - Leveling compound.
As approved by manufacturer to correct minor subfloor deviations.
B - Refer to product specifications for physical properties. The point elastic pure vinyl sport flooring shall be a homogenous 2.1mm thick wear-layer combined with a closed-cell foam cushioned backing, reinforced with a fiber glass mesh interlayer to improve dimensional stability. The total thickness shall vary according to the product selected.
A fungistatic and bacteriostatic treatment shall be incorporated throughout the thickness of the surface. The wearlayer shall be treated with a photoreticulated, UV cured polyurethane, anti-dirt treatment, applied at the factory to give the surface high resistance to soiling and scuff marks, while retaining its excellent playing characteristics.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3. 1 EXAMINATION
Installation temperature shall be at least 65
°F (18°C) or maximum of 86°F (30°C) and the moisture content of the slab 3 Lbs per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours or lower, according to RMA testing method. See Taraflex installation manual for more details.
3. 2 SUBFLOOR
A - Verify with the general contractor, that the concrete subfloor, on or below grade, is adequately waterproofed beneath the slab and along the perimeter with suitable, approved vaporproofing system. The vapor barrier must be placed in contact with the concrete slab and installed in strict accordance with the vapor barrier manufacturer's instructions.
Verify that adequate perimeter drainage is provided.
It is the responsability of the engineers to determine the extent of these needs.
B - Before beginning installation, verify that the subfloor is properly cured, clean and dry, usually sixty (60) days or more are necessary depending on water content and atmospheric conditions.
C - Verify with the general contractor, and by visual inspection that no curing compounds and /or sealers have been applied to the concrete without prior approval of the sports flooring manufacturer/supplier.
D - Verify that there are no variations in the concrete slab that exceed +/- 1/8 '' in a 10' radius.
3. 3 PREPARATION OF SURFACES
Fill cracks, grooves, voids and /or construction joints with levelling compound as approved by Taraflex. High spots on the floor shall be removed by grinding them down.
3. 4 ADHESIVES
Only use adhesives approved by Taraflex. Taraflex will not guarantee product performance when used with non-approved adhesives substitutes. For adhesive performance questions, refer to adhesive manufacturer recommendations.
3. 5 INSTALLATION
The installation of Taraflex Sports flooring should be done according to written instructions provided Taraflex. See the Taraflex specifications and installation guide for further details.
A - Seaming of joints (heat welding method) as recommended in installation manual.
B - Game Lines
All court lines shall be applied using the compounded polyurethane paint as approved by Taraflex. Colors to be selected from the Taraflex color chart.
3. 6 MAINTENANCE
As recommended in the Taraflex maintenance instructions guide. The maintenance instructions will be delivered to the owner, the attendants or individual responsible for the upkeep of the facility. These instructions must be followed, any deviations or substitutions shall be submitted to Taraflex and /or its distributors for approval.
